Lille full-back wants to make St James’ Park switch.
FRANCE international right-back Mathieu Debuchy is STILL interested in a move to Newcastle United – and will ask his representatives to revive his chances of a switch to Tyneside this January.
The Chronicle understands that Debuchy remains eager to quit Lille, having watched a move to United evaporate despite United believing they had agreed a fee with the 2011 French champions.
Debuchy was then linked with a transfer to Paris-Saint Germain, a move he was prepared to make to end his unhappiness at Lille.
But the cash-rich Middle East-backed outfit then pounced on another one-time United target, Dutchman Gregory van der Wiel – a player who had been offered to the Magpies – who joined them on September 1 for 6m (approximately £4.8m).

Things have not panned out how Mathieu Debuchy would’ve like them to. The Lille full-back enjoyed a good solid campaign last term, enjoyed a good run of form at the Euro 2012 finals and seemed likely to secure a move to St James’ Park. However even though a deal had apparently been agreed by the Ligue 1 side and the Magpies, Newcastle United saw the goal-posts moved again and Alan Pardew opted to give up the chase.
Since then long term contract rebel Danny Simpson has signed a new deal and that may leave any move for the 27 year old one-club man somewhat obsolete.
Newcastle United has seemingly won the race to sign the right-back in a deal said to be worth £6.3m to Lille but even though all sides seem to be in agreement a deal failed to materialise.
Any move that Pardew may or may not make for Debuchy may well be dictated by how well Simpson fares over the next few months.
