Liverpool Plan Intelligent January Move to Sign Fulham Centre Back Brede Hangeland

Anfield boss keen on Craven Cottage man mountain.

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly considering a move for giant Fulham defender Brede Hangeland when the transfer window re-opens in January. The Anfield boss is looking to beef up his defensive options and is said to be interested in the American born Norwegian international, who is in the final year of his Craven Cottage contract.

Though Liverpool are geared towards a more youthful transfer policy it is thought that the Anfield boss is willing to bring in the experienced defender on the grounds that being able to potentially pick up the Fulham man for a cut-price fee is too good an opportunity to resist.

Rodgers doesn’t have a great many central defensive options, with Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel being the Northern Irishman’s first choice starting pair and veteran Jamie Carragher as a back-up option. Young Uruguayan Sebastian Coates is still to prove himself and therefore a move for the former FC Copenhagen man could be a sensible one to consider.

Fulham opted to cash in on Clint Dempsey this summer rather than wait to lose the forward on a free transfer and Martin Jol may be forced into considering a similar scenario with Hangeland in January.

31 year old Brede Hangeland is a very consistent performer who has racked up 210 appearances since his £2.5m move to West London four and a half years ago.
