Liverpool Sweating On Fitness Of Key Players For Clash At Sunderland

Boss Brendan Rodgers waiting on news of fitness of Jose Enrique and Joe Allen.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is anxiously awaiting the news on fitness tests on key-men Jose Enrique and Joe Allen ahead of this weekend’s trip to Sunderland.

Left-back Jose Enrique, 26, must be assessed after a recurrence of the knee injury which has dogged him since the beginning of the new campaign.

Welsh midfielder Joe Allen, who followed the new boss from Swansea to the Anfield club over the summer in a £15m deal, was forced to miss playing for Wales in the recent international break due to illness and he is also a potential doubt for the game, according to the Premier League.

Rodgers will not want to be without the two players in what will be a tough away trip at the Stadium of Light, particularly given Liverpool’s poor start to the season which already has the new boss under pressure.

Meanwhile Rodgers is more hopeful that Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates will be fine to be involved after making the long trip back from international duty in South America earlier in the week.
