Man United Target January Moves for Italian International Centre Back Pair

Old Trafford side keen on Inter Milan and Torino duo.

Italian source Tutto Mercato are reporting that Man United are tracking Italian international defensive pair Andrea Ranocchia and Angelo Ogbonna.

This source states that the Old Trafford side could look to make offers for the centre back pair this January, which would be something of a surprise.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a fair few central defensive options in his Man United squad but has a few question marks over a number of those in his pecking order. Rio Ferdinand isn’t getting any younger and has injury issues, Nemanja Vidic missed most of last term but is still a very capable player.

Jonny Evans is only just returning from time out and Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are both also sidelined.

Of the pair mentioned by Tutto Mercato the most accomplished is giant 25 year old Andrea Ranocchia. The 6ft 5in defender moved to the San Siro 18 months ago and is considered a player with a great deal of potential and is now a regular in Cesare Prandelli’s national team set-up.

24 year old Torino centre back Angelo Ogbonna may have spent the last three seasons in Serie B but that hasn’t prevented him from forcing his way into the Italian national team set-up and he was instrumental in helping his side back into the top tier.

Ogbonna played in Italy’s recent draw with Bulgaria in last week’s World Cup qualifiers.
