Emirates Stadium side keen on Atletico Madrid forward.
Arsenal and Spurs transfer target Adrian Lopez stalls on new contract
Adrian Lopez is uncertain about whether to put pen to paper on a new contract at Atletico Madrid, just weeks after he was linked with Spurs and Arsenal.
The forward enjoyed a fine first season with Atletico, with his goals helping the club to win the Europa League and earning him a senior international debut for Spain.
However, while the new deal is unsigned, Adrian’s release clause remains just £14.5million and they are vulnerable to losing him in January.
Arsenal may well have smashed six goals past hapless Southampton but new signing Olivier Giroud is beginning to look more like a Marouane Chamakh-esque signing than a viable replacement for Robin Van Persie. Therefore a move to bring in a new striking option could well appeal to Arsene Wenger.
Adrian Lopez netted 19 goals in his debut season at the Vicente Calderon and has proved a good foil for unstoppable Colombian goal machine Radamel Falcao but the Spanish international may feel a move to North London all the more tempting if he isn’t offered a new improved deal by Atletico Madrid’s board.
Wenger loaned out Park Chu-Young and Nicklas Bendtner and sold Carlos Vela and doesn’t appear to have a great deal of faith in Moroccan Chamakh so the Gunners boss could well be keen on a new attacking addition in January, especially if by that point Giroud is still struggling for form.
Tottenham are also said to be interested and arguably they too could do with an attacking addition.
