Catalan giants keen on Emirates Stadium defender.
Barcelona are once again eyeing up a move to sign an Arsenal star with Nou Camp boss Tito Vilanova earmarking a January move for French international Laurent Koscielny.
Vilanova is keen to beef up his threadbare defensive options and will look to land the Gunners centre-back when the transfer window re-opens. Though Barcelona have started the season in excellent form yet another injury to veteran Carles Puyol has highlighted the urgent need to strengthen the club’s back-line.
Koscielny is yet to start a Premier League game this term having missed the opening couple of fixtures and then seen German international Per Mertesacker put in some solid displays leaving Arsene Wenger with a tricky selection problem.
Last term Koscielny and Belgian Thomas Vermaelen formed an excellent centre back pairing but the improvement shown by giant Mertesacker leaves Wenger having to consider which duo he should turn to.
Though the former Lorient man is said to be happy with life at the North London club he may well be tempted by interest shown by giants Barcelona who have of course become adept at luring Arsenal players.
Barcelona have very few central defensive options with Gerard Pique and the aforementioned Puyol still the club’s main options with youngsters such as Andreu Fontas, Marc Muniesa and Marc Bartra still to prove themselves in the first team set-up.
