Barcelona Set Sights On Newcastle United Keeper Tim Krul

Nou Camp side keen on St James’ Park keeper.

Italian source TuttoMercato reports that Barcelona have set their sights on Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul as Nou Camp boss Tito Vilanova looks to bring in an able back-up to keep first choice custodian Victor Valdes on his toes.

The 24 year old Magpies goalie has become a consistent performer between the sticks and was instrumental in helping Newcastle United push their way up to a fifth place finish last term. The former ADO Den Haag youth team player was an ever present last term and is a player Alan Pardew would be loathed to lose.

Krul has made real in-roads into the Dutch national team set-up, challenging Roma’s Maarten Stekelenburg for the starting spot in Louis van Gaal’s line-up.

Victor Valdes has barely been challenged as Barcelona’s number one for eight seasons and back-up option Jose Pinto is by no means an accomplished performer.

Tim Krul may well be as the type of up and coming keeper who could make Valdes fight for his starting spot.
