Man City In £80m Italian International Bid

Etihad Stadium side make mammoth offer.

Roma general manager Franco Baldini has claimed the club rejected a €100 million (£80m) offer for Manchester City target Daniele De Rossi during the summer.

The 51-year-old has confirmed the Italy international has committed the remainder of his career to the Giallorossi, and also praised former boss Luis Enrique.
“De Rossi? He will stay at Roma for life,” he told Sky Sports Italia. “We rejected several offers for him, even a €100m one.

Whilst Man City may indeed have limitless wealth would Roberto Mancini really ask his board to sanction an £80m bid for a 29 year old? There is no denying that the Italian boss is a big fan of the Roma midfielder but such an offer for Daniele De Rossi must surely be the figment of Baldini’s imagination?

Clearly if Roma were offered £80m for De Rossi then they would have taken the money and run, no?

Mancini had been looking to bring in a steely presence to add to his midfield, not least because he will expect to lose pivotal player Yaya Toure during January and February as he takes part in the African Nations Cup finals in South Africa.

Roberto Mancini instead opted to bring in Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia from Everton and Benfica respectively.
