Southampton Ready to Turn to Rafa Benitez as Replacement for Boss Nigel Adkins

Saints ready to draft in Spaniard.

SOUTHAMPTON are ready to make an SOS call to former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, according to reports in Spain.

The Saints currently sit bottom of the Premier League table after losing four out of four on their return to the top-flight.

And although club chiefs are sympathetic to boss Nigel Adkins over the South Coast side’s tough start to the season, they are contemplating immediate action.

Whilst Southampton have started the season fairly poorly it would be incredibly harsh for boss Nigel Adkins to be fired. After all the 47 year old former Scunthorpe United manager has guided the Saints to back to back promotions and brought the South Coast side back to the top tier.

Also whilst the St Mary’s side have started the season with four straight defeats it is worth noting that a) three of those four encounters came against top four regulars and b) Southampton came incredibly close to beating both Man City and Man United.

Rafa Benitez has been out of work since being fired by Inter Milan after a particularly turgid brief tenure in charge of the San Siro side. No doubt the former Liverpool boss is looking for a way back into top level management but it would be harsh for the Spaniard to be drafted in to replace Adkins so soon into their Premier League return.
