Liverpool Look To Have Missed Out On Barcelona Star

Tello set to sign contract extension up to 2016 with Barca.

Barcelona rising starlet Cristian Tello looks set to turn down the advances of Liverpool by signing a new contract to keep him at Barcelona up until 2016.

Tello starred as Barcelona came back from a 2-1 down to beat Spartak Moscow 3-2 at the Camp Nou in their opening group game of the Champions League, scoring the first goal before setting up Lionel Messi for his team’s second.

The 21-year-old forward rose to prominence for Barca last season, making his first La Liga appearance off the bench in January and going on to play 22 games for the first-team.

Liverpool were tracking the player during the Summer and were ready to make a move for him in January to strengthen their front line after they kicked-off the new campaign with only 2 recognised strikers in  Luis Suarez and new-boy Fabio Borini.

However, Brendan Rodgers will have to look elsewhere in the transfer market with Tello now willing to pledge his future to the Spanish giants.

Fernando Llorente is another Spanish player the Liverpool boss is looking at for the January transfer window, but he will likely cost surplus of £25m and Rodgers had hoped to find a cheaper solution.
