Man United Strongly Linked With Move for £16m Italian International

Sir Alex Ferguson wants to bring Torino centre back to Old Trafford.

Tutto Mercato reports that Man United are scouting Torino centre back Angelo Ogbonna with a view to making a move for the €20m (£16m) rated Italian international.

24 year old Torino centre back Ogbonna may have spent the last three seasons in Serie B but that hasn’t prevented him from forcing his way into the Italian national team set-up and he was instrumental in helping his side back into the top tier.

Ogbonna played in Italy’s recent draw with Bulgaria in last week’s World Cup qualifiers and is considered one of the most solid defensive customers in Serie A.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a fair few central defensive options in his Man United squad but has a few question marks over a number of those in his pecking order. Rio Ferdinand isn’t getting any younger and has injury issues, Nemanja Vidic missed most of last term but is still a very capable player.

Jonny Evans is only just returning from time out and Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are both also sidelined.

Ferguson may be looking to beef up numbers but one wonders if he would be willing to fork out such a sum for another defensive option, unless of course he felt Ogbonna had more to offer than any of those already in his armoury.
