Tottenham Set To Appoint Roma General Manager Franco Baldini As Director Of Football

Spurs keen on Capello’s former number two.

Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Roma general manager Franco Baldini for a role at the club, reports Sky Sports.

The North Londoners are understood to be keen to bring in an experienced figure to work under 34-year-old boss Andre Villas-Boas in a role similar to the one held by former director of football Damien Comolli.

Spurs sacked chief scout Ian Broomfield – brought in by dismissed former manager Harry Redknapp – this week and are keen to restructure their scouting network, with the new man expected to work closely with chairman Daniel Levy.

Baldini worked as Fabio Capello’s number two during the Italian’s spell in charge of England, before leaving to take up a post at Roma in October 2011.

Levy is a known fan of the more continental style of management but did not replace Comolli following his departure with boss Juande Ramos in October 2008.

Frank Arnesen, formally of Chelsea, also held the director of football role at White Hart Lane.
