Emirates Stadium boss sets sights on St James’ Park pair.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly very keen on Newcastle United duo Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa and is considering making January advances for the pair, dependent on whether he can convince his Emirates Stadium board to provide funds to make significant offers for the Magpies stars.
Though the North London club did bring in three high-profile summer signings; Lukas Podolski, Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud, Wenger more than balanced the books with the sales of Robin Van Persie & Alex Song and therefore hopes money will be made available when the transfer window re-opens.
Alan Pardew has revealed that Senegal international Demba Ba’s £7m release clause is still very much active and Wenger is looking to strengthen his attacking options, not least because Giroud is yet to find his feet, but also because other than his two summer striker signings Wenger doesn’t have a great deal of alternatives.
Having chosen to loan out Park Chu-Young and Nicklas Bendtner and sell Carlos Vela the North London club is fairly threadbare in the striking department.
Demba Ba is said to be unhappy with his wide attacking role and would surely jump at the chance of a move to a side that could offer him his first taste of Champions League football and perhaps even a shot at a title.
Wenger has long been linked with interest in French international Hatem Ben Arfa and the Arsenal boss has earmarked a move for the Newcastle United winger as a replacement for contract rebel Theo Walcott.
The Arsenal wide-man looks set to leave the club as the Gunners refuse to meet his wage demands and it’s plausible that the former Southampton man will be sold in January to avoid the 23 year old being picked up for nothing when his contract runs out in the summer.
Ben Arfa came close to moving to Arsenal during his three year stint at Marseille and the 25 year old flair player has seen a return to form over the past year, leading to a recall to the national team.
Though the Newcastle United attacker is said to be happy with life in the North-East he may be tempted by a move to Arsenal where he would link up with a number of his national team colleagues at the Emirates Stadium outfit.
