West Ham Reject Chance To Sign Trio Of Trialists, Including Ex-Arsenal Defender Mikael Silvestre

Allardyce turns down triumvirate of trialists.

West Ham have rejected to the chance to sign defensive trialists Mikael Silvestre, Anthony Vanden Borre and John Mensah.

Former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Silvestre is a free agent after leaving Werder Bremen this summer, while Ghanaian centre-half Mensah, formerly of Sunderland, is also a free agent after leaving Lyon.

Utility man Vanden Borre, once of Anderlecht and Portsmouth, has also been training with the Hammers in his search for a new club but boss Sam Allardyce feels he has enough quality already.

“We have had one or two trialists in but none of them have been offered a contract because I think that I already have enough quality within my squad,” the Hammers boss told the Sunderland Echo.

“I don’t want to take a player for the sake of it, even though we had some very good players come in on trial.

“My decision was to not offer them anything and I am happy with the squad I have now and hopefully it will continue to improve as they get to know each other better.”

Mensah is now rumoured to be interesting Championship leaders Blackburn Rovers.
