Emirates Stadium side keen on big forward.
Arsenal and Liverpool target Fernando Llorente has revealed he could leave Athletic Bilbao in January.
Speaking after Sunday’s 3-3 draw at Espanyol, in which he scored, Llorente said: “Now I am only thinking about helping the team and I will try to make things go as well as last year.
“I’ve been at Athletic for many years and always will be Athletic – although one day I will play for another team.
“It has been a bumpy and hard summer and I’ve had to make tough decisions.
“You never know how things will turn out and I had to go through difficult times.
“In January I am free to negotiate my future”
27 year old Spanish international Fernando Llorente may well be the ideal man to help boost Arsenal’s attacking option. The consistent La Liga forward would add a much needed striking alternative to Arsene Wenger’s forward line and the Athletic Bilbao man could be the man to play alongside Lukas Podolski and leading the line up front for the Gunners.
The fact that a player of Llorente’s quality can be picked up ‘on the cheap’ when the transfer window will not have gone unnoticed by the prudently run North London club and having scored 89 goals over the past four seasons the 6ft 5in Pamplona marksman has the quality, and physique, to make it in the English top tier.
Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in further attacking options having seen Robin Van Persie leave for Man United.
Though the North London club brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud the Arsenal manager feels he needs to beef up his options, and not just because the French international forward, who arrived from Montpellier in the summer is yet to make an impact.
The Gunners do not have a great many alternative options and Arsene Wenger will look to his board to finance a significant bid to convince Athletic Bilbao to sell up in January instead of seeing their prized asset leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
