Chelsea’s big-haired centre-half David Luiz has committed his future to the club, ending speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona, Sky Sports have confirmed on twitter.

Luiz was repeatedly linked with a move to the La Liga runners-up this summer but the 25-year-old has now committed himself to the European Champions until 2017.

The Brazil international arrived from Benfica in January and, although a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge, has been criticised for his erratic style of play and tendency to push forward.

Spanish giants Barcelona, who love their centre-halves to attack, seemed unconcerned by Luiz’s apparent defensive deficiencies and were rumoured to be lining-up a £25m bid for the stopper.

But with skipper John Terry on the decline and Chelsea sporting a far more South American feel since the arrivals of Oscar and Lucas Piazon, both of whom Luiz has helped settled into life in London, the defender is considered essential to Chelsea’s development.
