Palace chairman slams Martinez on twitter!
On Friday, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez played down his chances of landing Crystal Palace prodigy Wilfried Zaha, insisting that despite his obvious talent, Wigan were not the financial position to sign the 19-year-old.
“I think Wilfried has tremendous potential,” said Martinez in the Daily Mirror. “He has grown massively over the last 12 months.
“The first time we saw him was against us in the Carling Cup a year ago, but he has come on a lot since then.
“Crystal Palace have high thoughts of him. I don’t think it is going to be a realistic player for us. In these situations it has to be value for money.”
The Spaniard’s quotes, although fairly honest and reasonable-sounding, have not gone down well with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, who launched an extraordinary attack on Martinez via twitter.
Parish claims that Wigan took advantage of the South Londoners’ administration and ‘nicked’ Victor Moses, before rather ironically suggesting that Palace like to deal ‘privately and politely’.
The only thing that might please Martinez and Wigan fans is Parish referring to them as a ‘big’ club, despite the fact that the Latics have had to suffer from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs stealing most of their top players in recent seasons!
