Will Emirates Stadium side be tempted by offer?
Man City are reportedly ready to launch a bid to land yet another Arsenal player with Roberto Mancini setting his sights on Gunners contract rebel Theo Walcott. With the 23 year old set to be out of contract next summer the Etihad Stadium side are ready to make an offer they hope will convince the North London side into selling the England international in January over the possibility of losing the former Southampton man for nothing when his deal runs out.
The Premier League title holders are willing to offer a sum of around £5m plus the addition of Swedish international youngster John Guidetti, a player who Arsene Wenger is apparently an admirer of, in the hope that Arsenal opt to tempt the club into selling another of their stars to Man City.
The likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri have all made similar moves and given that Walcott is now being frozen out of the first team picture, it may be an offer Wenger would consider.
Walcott has demanded a hefty pay rise which Arsenal are unwilling to cough up and the good form shown by Gervinho and the emergence of starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, could well see the club stand by their guns and look to cash in on the inconsistent winger.
Mancini may feel that the carrot of 20 year old striker Guidetti could be of use in the pursuit of Walcott and the Italian may see the young marksman as a player he can happily use as bait.
Though Guidetti scored an impressive 20 goals from 23 Eredivisie appearances during his loan spell at Feyenoord last term there is virtually no chance of the forward breaking into the Man City first team. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko stand ahead of him in the pecking order and therefore a move may be the only way to prevent his career from stagnating.
Arsene Wenger may feel he could do with a youthful striking addition to add strength in depth to a squad that has seen Robin Van Persie leave for Man United. The Gunners boss also opted to sell Carlos Vela and loan out Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu-Young.
Whilst new signing Lukas Podolski has started well at the Emirates Stadium club fellow new boy Olivier Giroud is still to settle in to life in the English top tier. Guidetti clearly has the potential that Wenger may be able to harness and therefore could be the type of deal the French boss could consider viable.
