Nou Camp side target Old Trafford defender.
Spanish source MercaFutbol believe Barcelona are readying a move for Serbian international Nemanja Vidic. Tito Vilanova doesn’t have a great deal of defensive options in his attack-minded Nou Camp squad and sees the Man United man as an ideal man to help beef up his back-line.
The source claims that the experienced Old Trafford man is worth just €20m (£12m) which in today’s transfer market seems way too low. Sir Alex Ferguson left Vidic out of his squad for the crunch encounter with Liverpool and the 30 year old has certainly had his fair share of injury problems over the past 18 months.
Vilanova has injury problems of his own having lost veteran Carles Puyol and more recently Gerard Pique with consistent injury issues in recent months. This has led the Barcelona boss to play Javier Mascherano and Alex Song as a make-shift central defensive partnership.
Ferguson has had similar problems and had to use Michael Carrick at the back at times this season due to injuries to Phil Jones and Chris Smalling which have meant the young duo have not played at all this season.
Man United are unlikely to consider offers for Vidic but they may be concerned that the former Spartak Moscow man may be tempted by a new challenge.
The tough tackling centre back has made 246 appearances for Man United since his £7m arrival back in January 2006, and has won four Premier League titles and a Champions League winners medal in the process.
