Bundesliga title holders want Emirates Stadium wide-man.
Italian source CalcioMercato believe Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign Arsenal contract rebel Theo Walcott.
Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is apparently interested in signing the 23 year old, who’s contract comes to an end next summer, leaving the England man vulnerable to a possible cut-price move away from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal elected to allow the former Southampton man enter the final year of his contract in preference to accepting any offer for the winger during the last transfer window, this was perhaps something of a risk. Perhaps the North London side were hoping that Walcott would re-access his wage demands but as yet this has not occurred.
As a result Arsene Wenger has left Walcott out of his starting eleven for the past five matches and this could further damage relations between the player and the club.
Borussia Dortmund may well be looking to bring in further creative attacking options having seen Shinji Kagawa move to Man United, though that particular departure was to some degree balanced out by the arrival of promising young German international Marco Reus from Borussia Monchengladbach.
However having secured back to back domestic titles Dormund find themselves five points off Bayern Munich, the Bavarians having a 100% record thus far, and therefore Klopp may be keen to bring in new additions in January.
Wenger may feel he can afford to offload Walcott given the recent form shown by Gervinho as well as the emergence of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over the past 18 months.
