CaughtOffside Premier League Team Of The Week

We name our Premier League team of the week.

football formations

GK: Brad Friedel (Tottenham)

The 97-year-old star proved his worth again, keeping a rampant QPR at bay during the first half at White Hart Lane. Hugo Lloris is going to have to be patient.

RB: Rafael (Man United)

A cracking equaliser from the young Brazilian. He is looking more solid defensively this season too.

LB: Ashley Cole (Chelsea)

His late strike to sink Stoke could prove crucial in the title race and it was a great overall performance from the England man.

CB: Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

Influential at both ends: his powerful surge led to Spurs’ winner and he produced a goal saving tackle to deny Bobby Zamora late on. Looks one hell of a signing.

CB: Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

Made 7 interceptions apparently… It was a mightily assured performance from the German, who helped keep Man City at bay at the Etihad.

CM: Marouane Fellaini (Everton)

Another powerful performance from the Belgian and another goal. He could have racked up 20 by the time he leaves Everton in January…

CM: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

A much improved performance from the England captain (who has looked sloppy at times this season). A great goal; he didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.

CM: Kevin Nolan (West Ham)

How did this man ever play in the Championship? Nolan again did what he does best, popping up with an important goal from midfield for the Hammers.

RW: Hatem Ben Arfa (Newcastle)

More inspiration from the Frenchman helped Newcastle to victory over Norwich. He is frequently becoming the Magpies get out of jail card.

LW: Damien Duff (Fulham)

The Irish winger is enjoying a fabulous renaissance this season and has been one of the standout players in the Premier League so far. Scored again this weekend.

FW: Rickie Lambert (Southampton)

Top scorer in League One; top scorer in the Championship; currently topping the Prem charts after bagging a brace against Aston Villa. Can he secure an unprecedented treble?
