Former Hammers and Vill star training with Toffees.
Everton have handed a trial to former Premier League midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger.
The 30-year-old is without a club after being released by Wolfsburg in June.
Hitzlsperger knows the Premier League well after spells with Aston Villa and West Ham and David Moyes is looking to add depth to his squad after losing Darron Gibson through injury.
The midfielder was part of Germany’s squads for World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008 and has won 52 caps for his country in total.
The left-footer, known for his powerful shots, has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and the Toffees will assess his fitness before decided whether to offer him a deal. But Everton assistant Steve Round says he is impressed with Hitzlsperger’s attitude.
“I have been very pleased with him,” Round told the Daily Mail.
“Thomas is a long way off playing but we have given him the opportunity to come in and it is up to him now. We will assess him over the next couple of weeks.
“He seems a really good lad and I don’t think I have seen him without a smile on his face.
“What will determine whether he gets a contract is his fitness. He has had a bad injury and we would want to see that he could sustain training.
“If he could do that, he would add quality and strength to our squad. He has got a history of playing at the highest level.”
