St James’ Park side target Stuttgart striker.
Italian source CalcioMercato claim that Newcastle United have Stuttgart forward Martin Harnik in their sights as Alan Pardew prepares to mount a move for the Bundesliga hot-shot as a possible replacement for unsettled Magpies man Demba Ba.
The Senegal international has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park after his agent stated he was unhappy with his continued use in a wide attacking role. Alan Pardew responded by stating publicly that the 27 year old’s £7.5m release clause was still very much in effect, fueling rumours of a possible Magpies exit.
25 year old German born attacker Harnik has enjoyed a successful time since his move from Werder Bremen to the Mercedes-Benz Arena, scoring 36 goals in 84 appearances and providing 22 assists for good measure.
Harnik’s efforts last term helped hoist Bruno Labbadia’s side to a sixth place finish last term but this term hasn’t started all that well for Stuttgart, with the Baden-Wurttemberg based side collected just two points from four Bundesliga fixtures.
Harnik is an adaptable attacker who can play out wide but is most commonly used as an orthodox striker.
