Stamford Bridge side plot move to land Napoli striker.
Chelsea are ready to change course in their pursuit of a new striker signing as the Blues ready a £40m bid for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
The West London side had been looking to lure Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge but the La Liga side are holding firm in their decision to not allow another big name forward to leave the Vicente Calderon as they look to rid themselves of their ‘selling-club’ tag.
Cavani has been scoring goals at an alarming rate since his move to the San Paolo, netting 66 goals in his first two seasons in Naples and another six in six thus far this season.
However the Uruguayan saw his strike partner Ezequiel Lavezzi lured away to PSG and if by January Napoli’s title challenge has fallen away then perhaps the interest shown by Chelsea will tempt the 25 year old into pushing for a move.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich has lost patience with the Spanish international forward, who hasn’t come anywhere near justifying the £50m forked out for his services, and the the Russian billionaire will make inquiries into signing the Napoli forward.
Roberto Di Matteo is now having to depend a great deal on Fernando Torres as without crowd favourite Didier Drogba in his squad the Chelsea boss only really has Daniel Sturridge as an alternative option up front.
