Reds could make loan move for England youngster.
Liverpool are keeping tabs on Tottenham centre-half Steven Caulker and could move for the 20-year-old on loan in January, it has emerged.
Caulker made his first senior start for Spurs against Lazio in the Europa League earlier this month and also featured from the bench against QPR in Sunday’s league victory.
The youngster spent last season on loan at Swansea under boss Brendan Rodgers and the Northern Irishman, now in charge of Liverpool, is keen to be reunited with the stopper.
It is understood that Spurs rate Caulker highly but are considering a temporary loan switch for defender to help speed up his development and Liverpool are surprise contenders for a six-month deal.
The Anfield club have been left short of options at the back after injuries to Daniel Agger and Martin Kelly and Rodgers is confident that Caulker has what it takes to play regularly in the Premier League.
Caulker is first in line behind William Gallas and Jan Vertonghen for a place in Spurs’ first team but the return of Younes Kaboul before Christmas is likely to force the England prospect down the pecking order.
Spurs also have Michael Dawson, whose only appearance this season has been Wednesday’s league cup victory over Carlise, on their books and boss Andre Villas-Boas is ready to surprise fans by letting Caulker leave until next summer.
