Old Trafford side very keen on Bernabeu defender.
Spanish source AS reports that Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is pursuing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as a matter of the highest priority.
The teenage defender has struggled to make an impact at the Spanish giants but his recent Champions League performance against Man City was lauded by Jose Mourinho, leading one to assume the French starlet is very much part of his long term plans.
The Old Trafford boss may feel the need to strengthen at the back whilst having an eye to the future. Given that veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have both struggled with injuries of late and with both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling also out with knocks, a move for another central defensive option is certainly plausible.
Varane arrived at the Bernabeu from Lens a year ago but has struggled to break into the first team. The French Under 21 international is still only 19 years of age so arguably has the time to make an impact at Real Madrid and certainly wouldn’t have arrived expecting to jump straight into Jose Mourinho’s first team plans.
Speculation about an apparent falling out between Mourinho and defender Sergio Ramos may well have helped Varane for push his way back into the first team picture but it seems that pair have buried the hatchet and this may well re-open discussions about the youngsters future.
