When 19-year-old Ryan Tunnicliffe replaced Marnick Vermiji with 12 minutes to go of Manchester United’s 2-1 League Cup win over Newcastle, it was a momentous moment for both the youngster and his dad.

While Tunnicliffe junior will be hoping his debut is the first of many an appearance for United, the cameo earned Tunnicliffe senior a cool £10,000.

According to reports, back when his son was just nine years old, Tunnicliffe bet a friend £100 that one day his football-loving sprog would turn out for Manchester United, with his unsuspecting and no-doubt amused mate offering generous odds of 100/1.

Fast forward ten years and the young midfielder, who has spent time on loan at Peterborough United and played for England at youth level, jogged out for his Old Trafford bow.

Not a bad night’s work for his old man, eh? We reckon United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could well be receiving a fine bottle of claret courtesy of Mr. Tunnicliffe.
