Jermaine Jenas is to join Nottingham Forest on loan for one month.

The midfielder, who spent time on loan with Aston Villa last season, made the move to White Hart Lane in August 2005 from Newcastle United and has made 204 appearances, scoring 26 goals.

Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has joined his former club Nottingham Forest on a month’s loan but presumably there is every chance that the 29-year-old could remain at the City Ground until at least January.

Barring a ten minute cameo against West Brom, Jenas has not featured for new Spurs head-coach Andre Villas-Boas and his omission from the League Cup second-string that won at Carlisle on Wednesday night seemed to confirm that he was unlikely to play any part in Spurs’ season under the Portuguese.

It’s a startling fall from grace for the man signed from Newcastle for £7m in 2005. Jenas had the potential to be the complete midfielder: athleticism, technique and a great football brain but he was consistently inconsistent.

It was assumed, or hoped, at White Hart Lane that Jenas was a late bloomer and that he would eventually develop into one of the top midfielders in the country. Successive England managers also recognised his ability and Jenas scored the first goal of Fabio Capello’s ill-fated England regime on one of his 21 caps.

But Jenas’ inability to live up to potential eventually frustrated club and national managers alike and he gradually found himself out of the picture for both England and Spurs.

A loan move to Aston Villa at the start of last season gave the athletic box-to-box man a chance to get his career back on track but he was desperately unlucky to pick-up a serious ankle injury on his third appearance for the Villains.

Villas-Boas reportedly gave every Spurs player a fresh start at the beginning of this season and Jenas has evidently not impressed the tactician. He remains a player that many in the Premier League would love to have on board so hopefully he can refind some form back at Forest.
