Rooted to the foot of the table? Struggling to reel in the early pace setters? Fear not! CaughtOffside’s resident Fantasy Football guru is back to guide you through Gameweek 6:
PLAYER OF GAMEWEEK 4
Ricky Lambert: The big front man played an integral role in Southampton’s fight back from a goal down to thump Villa 4-1. Two goals and a man of the match display earned the 30-year-old Scouser three bonus points and a total score of 13.
WHO LET THE POG OUT?
Pavel Pogrebnyak: The Russian finally came to the party this season with a cheeky back-heeled goal against QPR in the League Cup. The hulking forward hasn’t quite recaptured the form he showed at Fulham last year causing his value to dip to £4.8m. However, his mid-week display will have Royal’s fans licking their lips. With Newcastle at home the Pog could be the one Reading player worth a pop this week.
Steven Fletcher: A lot of eyebrows were raised when Sunderland upped an already large bid for the Scot to £12m, Mackam fan and journo Jonathan Wilson being one such doubter. But four goals in three league appearances have justified Martin O’Neil’s faith and, consequently, Fletcher’s fantasy price has begun to rise. With Wigan at home, now might be the time to invest for the mid- to long-term.
Nuri Sahin: A genuine coup for Liverpool, Nuri Sahin has made a quiet start to life on Merseyside, feeling his way back into form after an injury-plagued year on the sidelines in Madrid. However, the midweek cup tie against West Brom reminded everyone what a quality player he is. At a knock-down price of £6.7m, Sahin could be a very shrewd buy, especially with Liverpool’s strikers struggling for goals.
Per Mertesacker: The lanky German international looked more woeful than wunderbar when he first arrived in the Premier League but under the wise tuition of Steve Bould he is finally starting to look like a Premier League defender. The Gunners boast the join best defence in the league and, although they face free-scoring Chelsea this weekend, Mertesacker could be a great long-term investment. At 6’6″, he should chip with a goal once in a while too!
