Goodison Park side linked with FC Porto midfielder.
Everton are lining up a move to sign Belgian international Steven Defour to replace exit bound midfielder Marouane Fellaini according to CalcioMercato.
The big haired Toffees favourite has been strongly linked with a Goodison Park exit since comments made to the Belgian press suggested the former Standard Liege man was keen to move on to a ‘bigger’ club. David Moyes was reportedly unhappy with the 24 year old but this hasn’t affected the player’s form.
Indeed the Merseyside club have started the season brightly and Fellaini has been in good goal-scoring form and could well be a target of a number of Europe’s ‘Elite’ and chairman Bill Kenwright may find it hard to turn down any significant offer for the Everton cult hero.
However if Fellaini were to leave then a move for FC Porto midfielder Steven Defour would be a wise one to consider. The 24 year old was a team mate of Fellaini’s at Standard Liege and is a national team compatriot and he could well be an ideal replacement.
Defour was hotly tipped to join Man United before he suffered a serious foot injury that seemed to hold up his progress. However he performed well in his first season in Portugal, helping his side to a domestic title.
One does wonder how likely FC Porto are to consider selling a player of Defour’s talent, especially as he is tied down to a long term contract.
