Anfield side keen on Bernabeu midfielder.
Liverpool will monitor Mesut Ozil’s situation at Real Madrid after the Germany midfielder was given a kick up the backside by boss Jose Mourinho.
Ozil has not enjoyed the best of starts to the season and the arrival of Luka Modric has cast further uncertainty on his future at the Bernabeu.
If things don’t improve Ozil, who is contracted to the Spanish giants until 2016, will be allowed to leave next summer, and long-term admirers Liverpool are keeping a keen eye on the former Werder Bremen star who has 41 caps and 12 goals for Germany.

Real Madrid have not enjoyed the best of starts to the La Liga season and Jose Mourinho’s attempts to retain the domestic crown wrestled from Barcelona’s grasp are being sorely tested and even at this early stage it seems like the Bernabeu side could struggle to catch up with their Nou Camp rivals.
Incredibly Barcelona are now 11 points clear of Real Madrid, though Mourinho’s side do have a game in hand, and this may well have led to a certain amount of apparent in-fighting at the club. Sergio Ramos has reportedly fallen out with the boss and Cristiano Ronaldo is apparently unhappy. Now it appears according to this source that German international Mesut Ozil could be heading for the exit.
The talented playmaker is into his third season at the club but is now seeing his spot under threat from new signing Luka Modric, this is despite the fact that Ozil has been incredibly successful since his move from Werder Bremen. In two seasons he has amassed an incredible 49 assists, as well as 17 goals, indeed last term the Real Madrid man finished as the most prolific assist maker in La Liga.
Clearly Liverpool would love to secure a player of Ozil’s stature but one wonders how likely such a deal could be secured. Brendan Rodgers’s side would have to mount a significant revivals of fortunes in order to push for a spot back in the coveted top four and only with Champions League football achieved could the Anfield side have a chance of landing the 23 year old.
Rodgers has already started to greatly improve his midfield. Offloading Charlie Adam and forcing the woeful Jordan Henderson out of the first team. The former Swansea City boss brought in his former charge Joe Allen from Liberty Stadium and used his friendship with Mourinho to snap up Nuri Sahin on loan.
The club’s 5-2 win at Norwich City may well be the catalyst for the Merseyside club to push on and look to land that all important top four spot.
