Anfield and Etihad Stadium sides very keen on landing Gunners contract rebel.
Up front: City and Liverpool ready to lure Theo Walcott with striker’s role
The flying winger wants to stay at Arsenal but wants to play in a more central position, which rival clubs claim they can offer
Manchester City and Liverpool will seize on Theo Walcott’s plea to play up front to try to lure him away from Arsenal.
Both Liverpool and City are ready to promise Walcott a role in a rotating strike-force that will give him more chances to score if his contract stand-off is not resolved.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that Walcott should be given a chance to play in his preferred position as central striker
Walcott’s current deal, runs out next summer. The 23-year-old wants to stay at Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger has hinted the club will sell him in January if no new contract has been agreed.

Theo Walcott appears to be attracting a number of prospective suitors as his Arsenal future continues to be in a great deal of doubt. Having not signed a new deal during the summer transfer window it was always likely that things would begin to get a little awkward for the winger at the Emirates Stadium club.
Arsene Wenger has opted to consign the 23 year old England international to he bench until he agrees to a new deal on the terms set out by the North London side. Walcott on the other hand appears to want a bigger pay-packet and a striking role, depending on what speculation you choose to see as accurate.
However when the wide-man has been employed coming off the bench he has made an impact and it may prove tough to continue to leave out the speedy attacker if he shows just what he is capable of.
If by January no deal has been signed then it is very likely that the prudently run side will opt to cash in over the possibility of losing the youngster for nothing next summer.
Of the two options cited by this source it may well be a move to Liverpool that tempts Walcott. After all interest from Premier League title holders Man City is all well and good but just how likely is it that the Arsenal man will get the striking role he desire at the Etihad Stadium.
Roberto Mancini has the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli to call upon, all four are top quality strikers who has scored when called upon on a regular basis. Where would Theo Walcott fit in to that mix exactly?
Liverpool on the other hand have only recognised senior strikers, Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini, and the Italian new-boy hasn’t exactly shone since his move from Roma to Merseyside so in many ways a move to Anfield could well be the type of challenge that could suit the Arsenal man down to the ground.
As for Wenger, well he could well feel that he has enough attacking and wide options to be able to afford to stick to his guns and therefore allow Walcott to leave when the transfer window re-opens.
