Newcastle United Target Montpellier Playmaker Younes Belhanda

St James’ Park side express interest in Moroccan international.

Italian source CalcioMercato claim that Newcastle United are monitoring Montpellier playmaker Younes Belhanda with Alan Pardew looking to sign the Moroccan international to help add more creativity to his St James’ Park side.

Belhanda helped Montpellier to their maiden Ligue 1 title last term but then saw star striker Olivier Giroud offloaded to Arsenal and has since seen his side struggle for form during the current campaign and may therefore be very interested in a move to the Premier League, interest that may well grow if his side has been knocked out of the Champions League by the time the transfer window re-opens in January.

Pardew has made good use of a relatively limited transfer budget, certainly in view of how much Magpies owner Mike Ashley has made from player sales, and has seen the likes of Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and strike pair Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba help his side collect a fifth place finish last term and after a shaky start the North-East side are faring well this season and could well help lure the 22 year old playmaker to the club.

Belhanda has steadily improved during his three seasons in the Stade de la Mosson first team and last term scored and created chances in abundance.
