Brazilian publication says Neymar is a martyr for divers.
Twenty-year-old Santos striker Neymar may be good but the Brazilian media have baulked at comparisons to Jesus Christ – until now.
Brazilian magazine Placar’s latest front-cover depicts the striker crucified on the cross and is sure to cause a stir in the predominantly Christian South American country.
The image was inspired by a 1970s issue of Spanish magazine Don Balon, which depicted Johan Cruyff in almost exactly the same way.
The caption reads: “the Brazilian ace turns scapegoat in a sport where everyone plays dirty”, alluding to the fact that, in Placar’s eyes, everyone dives but Neymar is being punished for it.
