Frenchman turned down chance to replace Luka Modric this summer.
Yohan Cabaye has revealed he turned down the chance to join Tottenham in the summer in favour of staying at Newcastle.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas saw the Frenchman as the ideal replacement for Luka Modric, who left for Real Madrid, and it looks as though they had an offer accepted.
However Cabaye has revealed he turned down the move as he is committed to Newcastle and believes the future is a bright one under the leadership of Alan Pardew.
“The offer from Tottenham was to replace Modric,” he told French television. “If I had wanted to leave I would have; I have not left, I was not meant to leave as I am still here and I hope a lot of good things will come out of it.
“For me the Premier League is the best league in the world, you have to work twice as hard and we know about the high tempo in every match. This is what attracted me and I will develop physically.”
Alan Pardew feared that one or two players may have left before the transfer window closed and will be delighted that one of his star players is fully committed to the club.

Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer and the Frenchman has now revealed he rejected the chance to join Spurs as a replacement for Luka Modric, who left for Real Madrid in late August.
Cabaye’s revelation is the latest piece of positive news to come out of St James’ Park, after boss Alan Pardew signed a new eight-year deal and the playmaker’s commitment suggests that, with or without Demba Ba, the future is bright on Tyneside.
There has been an unfair assumption from some parts that stars like Hatem Ben Arfa, Ba, Cabaye, Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote will eventually outgrow Newcastle but if Cabaye’s teammates follow his example, there is no reason why Pardew cannot build a squad to challenge at the very top of the Premier League.
Magpies chairman Mike Ashley has backed his manager (and poker buddy) for the long-term but now the sportswear tycoon must back Pardew in the transfer market.
The Toon missed out on top targets Mathieu Debuchy, Andy Carroll and Luuk de Jong in the summer and ended up adding just Vernon Anita to the first team squad. Newcastle have a good base but they will not improve by standing still. The current crop of stars are clearly content but they won’t be forever unless the club bring in fresh talent.
Tottenham fans, meanwhile, won’t be too unhappy with the news. The club opted to sign Fulham’s Moussa Dembele and the Belgian has started fabulously at White Hart Lane, suggesting he could be every bit as good as Modric.
