Man United & Man City In Battle to Sign £25m Serie A Playmaker

Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium sides keen on in-form attacking midfielder.

Check-In to Barcelona v Real Madrid

Manchester City are ready to rival neighbours Manchester United for Juventus ace Arturo Vidal.

talkSPORT revealed last week that United had informally enquired about the Chilean, with Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly keen to add some steel to the heart of his midfield.

Roberto Mancini is still on the lookout for a high-profile midfielder, and Vidal is thought to fit the bill.

However, both United and City face several hurdles in their pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Spanish champions Real Madrid are also thought to be tracking the Chilean, while Juventus are reluctant to part with the £25m-rated midfielder, who has four years left on his current contract.

This source suggests that Man City are looking for another midfield option but one wonders just how many players Roberto Mancini thinks he can fit into his starting eleven as he continues to bring in new additions with alarming regularity.

The Premier League title holders brought in two central midfielders over the summer, Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia, and though Nigel de Jong was sold to AC Milan the Etihad Stadium side have the likes of Yaya Toure, Gareth Barry and adaptable options such as James Milner and David Silva who can also occupy a role in the centre of the park.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with a fair few attack minded midfielders over the past few months and it’s clear that the Scot does indeed want to add more creativity, after all the Old Trafford boss made a big money bid for Brazilian youngster Lucas Moura, and now it appears that Juventus star Arturo Vidal is in his sights.

Vidal has made a big impact since his move to Turin from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2011, indeed Juventus have not lost a Serie A game since he arrived. The talented forward thinking Chilean international has continued where he left off last term and has put in some sterling displays thus far during the current campaign.

Ferguson may well feel the need to freshen up a midfield that still depends a great deal on the likes of Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and even Ryan Giggs, who is playing in a far more central role at present, and may fancy his chances of luring Vidal to the Premier League.
