Anfield side monitoring Genoa duo.
TuttoMercato claim that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is scouting Genoa pair Andreas Granqvist and Alexander Merkel who have helped the Stadio Luigi Ferraris side start the season brightly.
Rodgers has seemingly been handed a transfer budget far reduced from that given to his predecessor Kenny Dalglish and as such there is a renewed push to scout out young and/or up and coming talents who could perhaps be brought in for a fairly small fee and as such this Genoa duo may just fit the bill.
German youngster Merkel spent three years trying to break into the San Siro starting set-up without much success and after a period of joint ownership is now a player wholly owned by Genoa. The 20 year old midfielder is highly regarded and a player who appears to have gotten the attention of Liverpool boss Rodgers.
Experienced Swedish international Andreas Granqvist is a centre back who spent a year in the Premier League with Wigan prior to a successful three year stint FC Groningen which led the 27 year old making a move to join the Serie A side just over a year ago.
Granqvist was part of Sweden’s Euro 2012 squad and is certainly at the peak of his powers. Rodgers may feel he needs more strength in depth at the back given Daniel Agger’s consistent injury concerns and the big defender would surely be tempted by a move to Anfield.
