Man United Make Barcelona Midfielder Number One Transfer Target

Old Trafford side earmark move for Nou Camp youngster.

Check-In to Barcelona v Real Madrid

Sir Alex Ferguson has set his sights on capturing Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara as he looks to add more creativity to his midfield. The Man United will reportedly look to lure the Spanish international and will look to take advantage of the fact that new boss Tito Vilanova doesn’t appear to see the starlet as crucial part of his first team plans.

21 year old Alcantara is seeing his first team chances greatly limited with the Italian born starlet being crowded out of the Barcelona starting line-up by an array of proven world-class talent.

Thus far this season he has been handed just two La Liga starts and with the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song all vying for at most three spots, the chances are that Thiago will struggle to retain a spot in Vilanova’s starting set-up.

Ferguson has been monitoring the development of the Barcelona youngster who has shown a great deal of promise. The central midfielder is a stylish performer, comfortable on the ball, fleet of foot and with a good footballing brain and the Man United boss will look to continue his youthful transfer policy by making a significant offer for his services.

Alcantara is currently tied down to a long term contract that runs until the summer of 2015 but this may not stop Sir Alex Ferguson’s pursuit of the one time Flamengo youth team player.

The Man United manager has brought in a number of young talents from across Europe that he has then looked to field with academy graduates as he looks to the future of the Old Trafford club. The likes of Javier Hernandez, David de Gea, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all made fairly speedy impacts since they were signed and this summer two more young recruits were purchased, Nick Powell and Angelo Henriquez.

Ferguson is thought to have a good relationship with Barcelona and has previously brought in Gerard Pique from the Catalan club before selling the defender back after four years at Man United.

Thiago is currently sidelined with a knee injury but this is not thought to affect Man United’s interest.
