Liverpool Set to Offload Flop Stewart Downing

Anfield boss runs out of patience with winger.

Check-In to Liverpool v Reading

According to TransferMarketWeb Liverpool are ready to offload winger Stewart Downing. Brendan Rodgers has reportedly run out of patience with the England wide-man and will look to sell the former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough man at the earliest opportunity.

The 28 year old Liverpool man cost the Anfield club £20m a little over a year ago but the Merseyside club have seen precious little for their money and after a horrific first season at the club, where Downing produced just a handful of assists and not a single Premier League goal, Rodgers will look to sell the attacker to any side willing to make a decent offer for his services.

The failure of Downing, and indeed Jordan Henderson, to perform with any consistency on either wing has had the side-affect of allowing youngsters Suso and Raheem Sterling to impress, but Rodgers has a fairly limited transfer budget and may feel the need to try to supplement that with funds made from the sales of under-performing stars.

Downing has started just one Premier League match thus far this term and is unlikely to figure prominently any time soon.
