England stars of the future.
With John Terry now retired and clubmate Frank Lampard on the decline, England’s “Golden Generation” are slowly being consigned to history, slipping ignominously off the international scene one-by-one. Only the disgraced Ashley Cole and increasingly ineffective Steven Gerrard can still command a place in England’s starting XI but Wayne Rooney still has plenty of years left at the top.
We take a look at some of the young stars who could form the core of England’s 2014 World Cup Squad and beyond:
Jack Butland (GK, 19, Birmingham City)
At just 19, young Butland has already established himself as Joe Hart’s deputy for England, despite having never made an appearance in the Premier League. The Blues stopper has shown remarkable maturity in his short career and has major tournament experience after Euro 2012 and the Olympic Games. A move to the top-flight surely beckons before long.
