Bolton Wanderers Sack Manager Owen Coyle

Reebok Stadium boss given his marching orders.

Check-In to Bolton v Bristol City

Having relegated Bolton Wanderers to the second tier Scottish boss Owen Coyle knew his side had to make a strong start to the Championship campaign in order to keep his job and unfortunately his team were unable to deliver. This has led to a somewhat inevitable sacking for the likable 46 year old.

Coyle joined Bolton after leaving Burnley in January 2010 and led the Trotters to 14th spot but last term the Greater Manchester club struggled for form and ultimately a late Jonathan Walters penalty in the final match of the season sent the club down.

Life in the second tier has not gone according to plan and three wins from ten games have left Bolton in 18th spot and chairman Phil Gartside probably thought that this was the right time to sack Coyle given that an international break gives him time to bring in an able replacement without having too much bearing on the running of the club in the immediate term.

Expect Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy to be strongly linked with the vacant post.
