Championship strugglers Birmingham are set to sign former Portsmouth and West Ham midfielder Papa Bouba Diop on a one-month deal, reports Sky Sports.

The 34-year-old is without a club after being released from West Ham in the summer but has a wealth of experience of the English game.

Diop made his name at Fulham after joining the Cottagers in 2004 from Lens. The powerful enforcer made over 50 league appearances in West London and impressed sufficiently to earn a five-year deal with Pompey in 2007.

The Senagelese won the FA Cup with the South Coast outfit but released following their relegation.

Diop, nicknamed “the Wardrobe” by Fulham fans on account of his height and frame, has sufficiently impressed Blues boss Lee Clark during a trial and will now sign on at St Andrews until the middle of November.

Birmingham have made a hugely disappointing start to the season and currently lie 21st in the Championship.
