Sunderland Target Belgian Striker as Martin O’Neill Looks to Strengthen Attack

Stadium of Light side keen on Genk forward.

Check-In to Sunderland v Newcastle United

Italian source CalcioMercato report that Sunderland are keen on Racing Genk striker Jelle Vossen.

Martin O’Neill made a number of summer transfer window additions to help improve his attacking options, bringing in free agent Louis Saha and forking out big sums for Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher from Man City and Wolves respectively. However arguably the Stadium of Light side are still light up front and have to depend a great deal on the form of their new Scottish recruit.

Indeed the Black Cats have netted just five goals in six games, all of which came courtesy of Fletcher.

Therefore a move for a player of Vossen’s undoubted potential makes a great deal of sense.

The 23 year old has been a consistent marksman in the Belgian top tier over the past couple of seasons, netting 20 and 21 goals respectively in the past two campaigns and Martin O’Neill may feel that the instinctive finisher has what it takes to be a success in the English top tier.
