Chelsea Hope to Continue Spending With £20m World Cup Winner Purchase

Check-In to England v San Marino

Chelsea have been alerted to the possibility of landing one of Italy’s most experienced and gifted central midfielders, who is thought to have fallen out with new Roma coach Zdenek Zeman. At £20m, the 30-year-old is unlikely to have much sell on value, but there’s no questioning his ability.

Midfield general Daniele De Rossi has been strongly linked with interest from both Chelsea and Man City for many months and it had appeared that the one club man was happy to stay at the Stadio Olimpico but a falling out with veteran boss Zeman may have put paid to that.

Chelsea have a great deal of creative talent in their midfield but perhaps the Italian World Cup winner offers more leadership and a box to box presence that could well aid the West London club’s push for the Premier League title and perhaps a Champions League title defence.

The Rome born leader has racked up almost 400 appearances for his side and is now in his 12 season at the club but has on the whole failed to help the Giallorossi to succeed.

Indeed De Rossi has collected five Serie A title runners-up medals and of late has seen the club even secure Champions League football, last term’s seventh place finish cost Luis Enrique his job, and arguably this could be the tough tackling long range specialist’s last chance for a significant new challenge.
