Anfield side keen to bring in attacking reinforcements, leading to a myriad of reports linking the Merseyside club with potential top striker signings.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could look to bolster his attack with a move for Galatasaray hitman Burak Yilmaz.
Yilmaz was reportedly the subject of interest from West Ham and Tottenham while at previous club Trabzonspor last season, but he instead opted to join Turkish champions Galatasaray.
The 27-year-old, who scored 33 goals last term, has enjoyed a flying start to life at his new club, having bagged five goals in six league appearances.
His exploits in front of goal are thought to have caught the eye of Rodgers, who is desperate to add a prolific poacher to his misfiring side.
And the Liverpool manager is now considering a swoop for Yilmaz, who is valued at around £13million.
It’s no secret that Liverpool need a striker and Galatasaray goal-machine Burak Yilmaz could well be the man Brendan Rodgers turns to in January.
The Turkish international has arguably outgrown the Turkish league, bagging 33 goals last season and further five in six games so far this term.
At 27, Yilmaz – who was linked with London trio West Ham, Spurs and Fulham in the summer – may well feel the time is right to make a big move to Europe and there are few bigger clubs than Liverpool that could guarantee him first team football.
The fact that Yilmaz currently plays in a smaller league should not count against him: just up the road at Goodison Park, Kevin Mirallas has settled into Premier League life admirably, after signing from Greek side Panithinaikos in August.
Liverpool badly need a striker. With Fabio Borini struggling to settle, the weight of expectation on Luis Suarez’s shoulders is forcing the Uruguayan to throw himself to ground at alarming regularity and the former Ajax man would welcome a talented strike partner like Yilmaz to lessen the burden.
His fee could prove a problem, however. Judging from Liverpool’s thriftiness in the summer, Kenny Dalglish’s terrible spending spree in summer 2011 has left his successor Rodgers with barely two pennies to rub together.
The Anfield club refused to cough up £6m for 29-year-old Clint Dempsey on transfer deadline day and may baulk at Yilmaz’s £13m price-tag.
