Andreas Granqvist keen on Liverpool transfer

Andreas Granqvist has revealed he would be keen on a transfer to Liverpool, after being linked with a January move to Anfield.

The 27-year-old defender was a target for AC Milan and Lazio over the summer, but the deals fell through and he remained at Genoa, where he has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign.

‘Honestly, I don’t know much about this interest. I am focused on Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers and then we’ll see what happens,’ Granqvist told Sportbladet.

‘I am happy in Genoa, but obviously I am flattered by the interest from the Reds. They are an historic and successful club.’

These comments are pretty much tantamount to a ‘come and get me’ plea and one wonders how Genoa will take such an open statement of interest in a move to another club and whether this may indeed aid Liverpool in their attempt to snap up the experienced Swedish international.

Experienced Swedish international Andreas Granqvist is a centre back who spent a year in the Premier League with Wigan prior to a successful three year stint FC Groningen which led the 27 year old making a move to join the Serie A side just over a year ago.

Granqvist was part of Sweden’s Euro 2012 squad and is certainly at the peak of his powers. Rodgers may feel he needs more strength in depth at the back given Daniel Agger’s consistent injury concerns and the big defender would surely be tempted by a move to Anfield.

Though Liverpool have a well documented lack of firepower they are also none too solid at the back and after conceding 12 goals in seven Premier League matches it would make sense if Rodgers looked to strengthen his defence.

Indeed the Merseyside club have managed to secure just two clean sheets in their last 17 Premier League matches.
