Tottenham are keeping tabs on young Holland international Jordy Clasie as boss Andre Villas-Boas prepares to add to his squad in in January.

Clasie has won two full caps and is a regular for Feyenoord who may be willing to sell him for around £5m when the transfer window opens.

He impressed for during Holland’s recent victory over Hungary in the World Cup qualifier and now Spurs intend to maintain their interest in the coming weeks.

The north London club are also interested in Patrick Herrmann, the £7.5million-rated Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.

The Germany Under 21 star has 70 made appearances and scored 11 goals for the Bundesliga outfit and is one of Europe’s top rated talents.

Young Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie would certainly suit Tottenham’s transfer policy of buying young talent with plenty of potential.

The 21-year-old has only had two full seasons in the Eredivisie but has impressed sufficiently to force his way into the Dutch national squad and the young midfielder was on the standby list for the Netherlands’ doomed Euro 2012 campaign.

Clasie has been described as the ‘Dutch Xavi’ on account of his style of play. The diminutive star likes to sit deep and dictate the tempo so it’s no surprise Spurs are chasing him, given their previous interest in Joao Moutinho who performs a similar role for Porto and Portugal.

Spurs head-coach Andre Villas-Boas is still desperate to land Moutinho but the North Londoners look set to be priced out a move for the 26-year-old, who is happy to remain at Porto for the remainder of the season.

Clasie is not in the same league as the Portuguese yet but clearly has plenty of potential. Whilst Spurs continue to raise money for a new stadium and without Champions League football, the club are unable to fork out huge transfer fees or wages, so pursuing youngsters on the cheap has worked well for the club, with the likes of Michael Carrick and Luka Modric sold for huge profits in the last few years.

It is for this reason that the club are looking to bring in a new director of football, who will hopefully be able to use a wide network of contacts to identify to very best youngsters in world football and bring them to the Lane before their price rockets.
