Emirates Stadium look to Leandro Damiao to boost firepower.
Arsenal are said to be readying a move for highly rated Brazilian international Leandro Damiao according to TransferMarketWeb. The Internacional striker has long been a target of North London rivals Tottenham but now Arsene Wenger appears keen on snapping up the 23 year old.
Wenger is keen to beef up his attacking options having offloaded a number of strikers either on loan or on a permanent basis, leaving the North London club with just summer signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud as viable first team starters.
Damiao has been in superb form in his native Brazil netting 74 goals in 122 matches for his Porto Algre based side and the form shown during the 2012 Olympic Football tournament had a number of watching scouts considering a potential summer bid for the powerfully built striker but as yet no offer had persuaded Internacional to sell.
Having sold Robin Van Persie and Carlos Vela and sent Nicklas Bendnter and Park Chu Young on loan and seemingly giving up on Marouane Chamakh, there is certainly space for another striker in Arsene Wenger’s squad and though it is always something of a risk to invest heavily in a player with no experience of plying his trade in Europe it seems that Damiao has attracted the attention of the Gunners boss enough to warrant a significant bid.
Indeed this source claims Arsenal are ready to fork out €20m (£16m) to land Leandro in January.
