Manchester United have lined up Porto winger James Rodriguez as a potential replacement for Nani – who is being chased by Juventus and AC Milan, according to reports.

Columbian international Rodriguez has been labelled as the South American Cristiano Ronaldo and is aware of the interest from Old Trafford.

“We all know that Manchester United are a great club,” he said.

So Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to replace like for like.

Rodriguez has impressed since his move to Portugal two years ago but even more will be expected of the adaptable attacker now that FC Porto have sold star striker Hulk to Zenit.

Sir Alex Ferguson is of course no stranger the Primeira Liga, bringing in a number of players to Old Trafford from the Portuguese top tier including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson and Bebe.

James Rodriguez netted 13 goals in 26 league appearances last term and has continued that consistent form this term but Ferguson will still be reticent about forking out the reported €45 (£36m) FC Porto are looking to make from his sale.

Nani’s Man United career appears to hang in the balance after 18 months of average form and given that Ferguson can turn to the likes of Luis Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa to fill wide attacking role, there appears a genuine chance that Ferguson would consider offers for the Portuguese international in order to make way for a younger man.
