Emirates Stadium side ready to spend big to land striker.
TransferMarketWeb report that Arsenal lead the chase to sign talented Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao, who this source quotes as being a player worth €40m (£32m), not the kind of fee one would usually associate with the North London side.
The Internacional striker is being tracked by North London rivals Tottenham as well as both Man City and Juventus, all of whom will have been impressed by Damiao’s recent form. The 23 year old has netted 74 goals in 123 appearances for his Porto Alegre based side and impressed many watching scouts during the 2012 Olympic Football tournament, where the Brazilian finished as top scorer.
Arsenal have just two recognised senior strikers in the form of summer signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, and indeed Wenger prefers to use the German in a wide attacking role, similar to the decision he has taken with regards to Gervinho, with the Ivory Coast man working far more effectively as a winger.
This has led the Emirates Stadium side to target a number of potential January additions to boost the club’s firepower.
One wonders if Arsenal would be willing, or indeed able, to make an offer of this size for the prolific striker given that such a bid would be a significant amount more than the club’s record transfer spend.
